La Galerie Miniature in Aix puts printmaking in dialogue
In October, La Galerie Miniature in Aix-en-Provence brings together three printmakers working across lino, Tetrapak and monotype. The show widens the field with drawings, paintings, collages, artists’ books and graphic objects.
From 1 to 31 October, the small art kiosk on Place Bellegarde hosts “Ça grave docteur?”, an exhibition featuring Adèle Adélie, Béné2n Imbert and Paul Rey. Visitors will encounter several approaches to printmaking, from lino and Tetrapak to monotype.
What makes the show appealing for artists and drawing or painting enthusiasts is the way it treats printmaking as a space for testing ideas. Depending on the maker, the plate becomes a place for variation, repetition or disruption, and the printed image keeps visible traces of pressure, gesture and material choice.
Around these prints, La Galerie Miniature also brings together works on paper, artists’ books, drawings, paintings, collages, watercolours, calligraphy and illustrations. Moving between these forms makes it easier to compare how images are built, how compositions hold together and how motifs emerge across different practices.
The “almost opening” on Friday 2 October will offer a chance to meet several of the artists, including LOAT, Béné2n Imbert, Didier Gianella and Emmanuelle de Rosa. In this associative space housed in a former news kiosk, the exhibition reads as a lively snapshot of contemporary graphic practice.
